**Overview**

The primary focus for the Cloud Security Architect will be to advise PNNL's Chief Information Security Officer in developing cloud risk management strategies and multi-year implementation plans anchored to the Lab's business priorities. With a solid understanding of best practices in securing environments from leading cloud service providers, the architect will be responsible to design and effectively implement security strategies and architectures that will directly influence the direction of our enterprise IT. To achieve this, the successful candidate must be knowledgeable about how security architecture fits into the broader security program as well as how it supports the transformation of the organization's digital infrastructure.

They will be accountable for the cloud security architecture and will assist with projects and improvement initiatives of moderate size, complexity, and risk. The cloud security architect will develop actionable security blueprints, principles, models, designs, standards and guidelines to ensure enterprise information technology architecture is consistent, usable, secure and adds value to the business. It will be crucial to pro-actively interact with vendors, IT, and business area contacts to facilitate flexible, scalable, and cost-effective security solutions while also providing technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced cyber engineers and architects.

**Responsibilities**

Design and architecture of new approaches, methods, and techniques for cloud cyber defense and resiliency for information technology and operational technology systems and networks.

Other responsibilities include:

+ Design and implementation of cloud security strategy, architecture, and platforms, ensuring that the strategic objectives are aligned with organizational business goals.

+ Develop and manage cloud security policies and standards in alignment with industry best practices, state and federal regulations, and emerging security technologies.

+ Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including IT teams, vendors, and government agencies, to ensure that security measures are integrated into all cloud technology solutions.

+ Work closely with customer stakeholders to identify and mitigate risks, perform security reviews, design top tier security practices, and deliver strategic, innovative cloud-based security offerings.

+ Actively participate in the enterprise architecture forum and in client engagements where you will represent cloud security interests and provide expertise on security-related issues.

+ Build consensus around principles of security architecture and interprets and clarifies these principles.

+ Evaluates strengths and flaws in security architecture designs including performance, confidentiality, integrity, availability, access, and total cost of ownership.

+ Keep abreast of the latest security threats, trends, and technologies, suggesting solutions to mitigate risks as they arise.

**Qualifications**

Minimum Qualifications:

+ BS/BA and 7+ years of relevant work experience -OR-

+ MS/MA and 5+ years of relevant work experience -OR-

+ PhD with 3+ year of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

+ At least 5 years of demonstrated experience in cloud security and architecture.

+ Effective leadership skills and highly adept at consulting, negotiating, communicating, consensus building, presentation and facilitation.

+ Hold one or more industry cyber and cloud security certifications.

+ Highly adept at innovating and thinking beyond established standards and processes.

+ Strong decision-making skills related to implementing security architecture and design and a familiarity with securing cloud operations in a variety of system environments.

+ Previous experience integrating federal cyber security compliance across the largest cloud service providers.

+ Ability to communicate highly complex technical information clearly and articulately for all levels and audiences.

**Additional Information**

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance. Requirements:

+ U.S. Citizenship

+ Background Investigation: Applicants selected will be subject to a federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter in accordance 10 CFR 710, Appendix B.

+ Drug Testing:? All Security Clearance (L or Q) positions will be considered by the Department of Energy to be Testing Designated Positions which means that they are subject to applicant, random, and for cause drug testing.? In addition, applicants must be able to demonstrate non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for the 12 consecutive months preceding completion of the requisite Questionnaire for National Security Positions (QNSP).

Note: Applicants will be considered ineligible for security clearance processing by the U.S. Department of Energy until non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for 12 months can be demonstrated.

**Testing Designated Position**

This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). The candidate selected for this position will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing for illegal drugs, including marijuana, consistent with the Controlled Substances Act and the PNNL Workplace Substance Abuse Program.
