We have an incredible opportunity to join us here at Phoenix Group as a Solution Architect in our IT AM Transformation Team to lead the design, planning and governance of IT architecture across entire Asset Management business unit.

The role

As a Solution Architect you will be accountable for the delivery of Asset Management's technology strategy through a significant period of transformation and enabling a suitable support model for a mature Asset Management function which is core to the success of the wider Phoenix Group.

Key responsibilities

  • Designing, architecting, prototyping serverless architectures
  • Help delivery teams to interpret business needs and transpose these into scalable technology solutions
  • Provide oversight and advice to other architects and engineers within AM Technology Solutions who are undertaking the design and build of technology solutions
  • Support the creation and on-going management of the relevant architectural models, slideware and other artefacts that describe the Solution Architecture.
  • Provide input and advice on implementation of Non-functional requirements covering reliability, resilience, scalability and security of all AM technology solutions.
  • Promote loosely coupled system architecture and recognise when to build or buy solutions over the other.
  • Work with cloud engineers and data architects to make sure that the business unit's systems are designed in accordance with the appropriate technical architecture
  • Ability to identify, detect and raise security, technology and business risks
  • Bridge the gap between technology and business, communicate in technical and non-technical ways. You can communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders. You can support and host discussions within a multidisciplinary team, with potentially difficult dynamics.
  • Communicating technology. You can show an awareness that technology needs to be aligned to the needs of the business. You can produce visual presentations encompassing both granular and summary level information to the various audiences required.
  • Architectural Governance and Quality. You understand what architectural governance is required. You can take responsibility for the assurance of technology solutions and make recommendations to ensure compliance.
  • Technical innovation. You can show an awareness and understanding of opportunities for innovation with new tools, technologies leveraging to improve customer outcomes.
  • Software Architectural Standards. You can develop software architectural standards for a specific component. You can analyse where standards have been applied or breached and undertake an impact analysis.
  • Taking Ownership. You can demonstrate taking ownership over end to end solutions from design through implementation into live running and ongoing support.
  • Turning business problems into technical design. You can design software architecture by dealing with problems that span different business areas. You can draw links between problems to reach common solutions. You can work across multiple subject areas, or a single large or complicated subject area
  • Presenting solutions and recommendations to the relevant governance bodies for review and approval.

What we're looking for

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent in computer science, technology or engineering
  • Any AWS Cloud certifications will be considered with the following considered advantageous;
    • AWS Certified Solution Architect - Associate
    • AWS Certified Developer - Associate
    • AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Associate

Experience

Essential

  • Experience within Financial Services and Asset Management
  • Demonstrated Solution Architecture Experience within Financial Services
  • Strong stakeholder management and engagement skills
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies
  • AWS Public Cloud experience
  • Understanding of AWS Serverless Technologies
  • Experience with Bitbucket Cloud, Bitbucket pipelines, Containerisation, Python, AWS CDK, JavaScript, typescript.
  • Understanding of API design, build and implementation of GraphQL / REST API's along with the use of Swagger
  • Exposure to Reporting tools and integration via API's (E.g. Quicksight, Tableau, Qlik, Power BI)
  • Demonstrable expertise in the areas of cloud architecture, software architecture, software development and integration of solutions with large complex IT estates
  • Understanding of the DevSecOps pipelines and integration of multiple SaaS solutions into the pipeline to meet comprehensive security non-functional requirements.
  • Demonstrable experience in modern ways of working (examples include Agile, CI/CD, DevSecOps, Test Automation)
  • Experience working with On Premise, Cloud, and Hybrid solutions
  • Excellent communication, influencing and facilitation skills, in particular for problem solving/troubleshooting activities
  • Assertiveness in dealing with people at all levels within and outside of the delivery organisation, including partner and client organisations
  • Issue management, prioritisation and ability to provide pragmatic direction which is consistent with clients' longer-term strategy
  • Able to demonstrate resilience, flexibility and adapt to changing schedules and priorities
  • Demonstrate knowledge of how to integrate 3rd party SaaS products into complex IT estates, manage interdependencies between products and lead end to end delivery in potentially multi-supplier engagements

  • Membership of a professional body
  • Experience of working with Front Office and Quant developers in Asset Management
